Tour Plan:
Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve
Baest Royal Adventures welcomes you to Tanzania! Today, our friendly driver will pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive you to Selous Game Reserve, which is about 5-6 hours’ drive away. Along the way, you’ll see local villages, plantations, and beautiful landscapes. Our experienced guide will share with you interesting information about the region, the culture, and the wildlife that you might encounter during your trip.
As we arrive at the park, we’ll stop for a picnic lunch while enjoying the beautiful views around us. After lunch, we’ll continue to Rufiji River Camp/ Zarafa Tented Camp, where you’ll check-in to your accommodation and take a short rest before your afternoon boat safari along the Rufiji River.
This is a unique opportunity to discover the Rufiji River, the largest river in Tanzania and the lifeblood of the Selous Game Reserve. You’ll encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers, and if you’re lucky, you might see elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife coming to the river to drink. The Selous Game Reserve is home to some 350 bird species, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest.
As the sun sets, we’ll head back to the camp for a delicious dinner prepared by our skilled chefs. You’ll have some time to relax, share your experiences with other travelers, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the African wilderness. Overnight stay will be at Rufiji River Camp/ Zarafa Tented Camp, where you’ll fall asleep to the sounds of nature.
Day 2: Game Drive in Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will embark on a full day game drive in the Selous Game Reserve. With over 54,600 square kilometers, Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa and is renowned for its diverse wildlife and unique landscapes. The reserve is named after the famous hunter and explorer, Frederick Courtney Selous, who was killed here during World War I.
Your expert guide will take you through different sections of the reserve, each offering a unique experience. You will have the opportunity to spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) as well as other wildlife such as hyenas, zebras, giraffes, impalas, and more. Keep your camera ready to capture these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.
During the game drive, you will stop for a picnic lunch in the wilderness, surrounded by stunning landscapes and wildlife. After lunch, you will continue your exploration of the park, soaking in the beauty of the reserve.
In the evening, you will return to your lodge, Rufiji River Camp or Zarafa Tented Camp, for a delicious dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.
Day 3: Boat Safari and Walking Safari in Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will enjoy a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River, which is home to some of Africa’s largest populations of hippos and crocodiles. The river is also a habitat for a variety of bird species such as kingfishers, African fish eagles, and storks. During the boat safari, you will get a unique perspective of the wildlife and landscapes along the riverbank.
After the boat safari, you will embark on a walking safari with an armed ranger, providing you with a more intimate experience of the Selous Game Reserve. This is an opportunity to get up close to the flora and fauna and learn about the smaller wildlife that may be overlooked on a traditional game drive. You may spot bushbucks, reedbucks, and other antelopes, as well as primates like baboons and monkeys.
As you walk, your guide will provide fascinating insights into the ecology and behavior of the animals and plants you encounter. You may also learn about the local communities and their relationship with the reserve.
After the walking safari, you will return to the lodge for a tasty lunch. In the afternoon, you can relax at the lodge, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a nature walk around the camp. In the evening, you will savor a sumptuous dinner before retiring to your comfortable accommodations at Rufiji River Camp or Zarafa Tented Camp.
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve – Mikumi National Park
After an early breakfast, you will embark on a morning walking safari that will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. The guided walking safari, accompanied by an armed ranger, takes approximately 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. During the walk, you will be able to get up close to nature and appreciate the smaller details of the reserve.
Later on, you will proceed to Mikumi National Park with a picnic lunch. The drive will take you through the most amazing and truly wild and untouched areas of Tanzania. As you cross rivers and pass small local villages and farms, you will be able to witness the daily lives of the local people.
Mikumi National Park, covering 3,230 square kilometers, is a well-known park in Tanzania. The park is known for its population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan, and sable antelope. You might also spot some predators like tree-climbing lions (which are in large numbers), leopards, wild hunting dogs, and black-backed jackal. The park is also home to over 300 species of birds, including Eurasian migrants such as red-billed oxpecker, marabou stork, and lilac-breasted roller.
In the evening, you will check into your chosen accommodation at Vuma Hills Tented Camp, Tan Swiss Lodge, or TANAPA Bandas, where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 5: Mikumi National Park – Ruaha National Park
After breakfast, get ready for a new adventure as you head to Ruaha National Park. You will enjoy a scenic drive through the breathtaking landscapes of Tanzania with picnic lunch provided.
Baest Royal Adventures ensures your comfort throughout your journey as you are transported in a comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle. Your driver-guide will share interesting facts and information about the surrounding areas and wildlife.
Upon arrival at Ruaha National Park, you will be amazed by its beauty and vastness. The park covers an area of 20,226 square kilometers and is home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, and many more.
You will have dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge or Tungamalenga Lodge. These lodges provide comfortable accommodation and are designed to blend seamlessly into the natural environment, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the wild.
Day 6: Game Drive in Ruaha National Park
After a hearty breakfast, get ready for a full day of adventure in Ruaha National Park. This park is known for its large elephant herds, diverse wildlife, and stunning landscapes.
Baest Royal Adventures offers a customized game drive experience, allowing you to explore different sections of the park and witness the beauty of its flora and fauna. Your experienced guide will take you through the park in a 4×4 vehicle, stopping at various points to allow for close-up encounters with the animals and to capture breathtaking photographs.
During your game drive, you may have the opportunity to see lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and many more. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise with over 570 species of birds recorded here.
As the sun sets, head back to your lodge for a delicious dinner and a comfortable night’s rest.
Day 7: Game Drive in Ruaha National Park
Wake up to the soothing sounds of the wild, have a sumptuous breakfast and get ready for a full-day game drive in Ruaha National Park. The park is the largest in Tanzania, and it offers a wide variety of habitats for a range of animals. On your game drive, keep your eyes peeled for predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as herbivores such as elephants, giraffes, and antelopes. You might also spot rare species like the wild dog and the sable antelope. Your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating information about the park and its inhabitants, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
In the evening, return to your lodge for a delicious dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 8: Ruaha National Park – Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, bid farewell to the breathtaking Ruaha National Park and set off for your next adventure in Mikumi National Park. The journey will take you through some of Tanzania’s most spectacular landscapes, including mountains, rivers, and local villages. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the way, and arrive at your lodge in time for an evening of relaxation. The lodge offers stunning views of the surrounding wilderness, and you might even spot some wildlife from the comfort of your room.
In the evening, enjoy a mouth-watering dinner and a peaceful night’s sleep, ready for another exciting day of exploration.
Day 9: Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam
After a hearty breakfast at your lodge, embark on a final morning game drive in Mikumi National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for any animals you might have missed during your previous game drives, as you soak in the beauty of the savannah landscapes.
Later on, you will drive back to Dar es Salaam with a picnic lunch to enjoy on the way. As you make your way back to the bustling city, take some time to reflect on your amazing safari experience in Tanzania, and the unforgettable memories you have made.
