FAQ- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS A SAFARI?
Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure? Let’s talk about safaris!Â
The term “safari” comes from the Swahili word for journey and refers to an overland trip, typically taken by tourists, in Africa.
During a safari, travelers have the opportunity to observe and appreciate the natural beauty of Africa’s wildlife and landscape. The focus is usually on observing animals in their natural habitat, rather than hunting them.
Safaris offer a unique opportunity to witness animals such as lions, elephants, zebras, and giraffes in their natural environment, up close and personal. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, nature lover, or just seeking a new adventure, a safari is an experience not to be missed. So why not pack your bags and set off on an unforgettable journey into the heart of Africa?
WHAT IS A GAME DRIVE?
Are you curious about the term “game drive”? A game drive is an exciting experience that offers the opportunity to view animals in their natural habitat. The term is derived from two words: “game”, which refers to wild animals that are not domesticated, and “drive”, which refers to the mode of transportation used during the excursion.
Game drives can be a part of a larger safari journey or a standalone adventure. They can be carried out in various ways, including with your own car in national parks or game reserves, or as a guided tour with specially designed off-road vehicles led by professional safari guides. These 4×4 game viewing vehicles provide a safe and comfortable way to get up close to wildlife.
During a game drive, visitors have the chance to observe a wide variety of animals, including lions, elephants, zebras, and giraffes. Expert safari guides are always on hand to interpret the animals’ behavior and explain the unique characteristics of the bush. Guided game drives typically take place in the early morning, late afternoon, or evening when the animals are most active.
If you’re looking for a thrilling game drive experience, look no further than Best Royal Adventures. Our expert guides and specially designed vehicles provide an unforgettable way to experience Africa’s magnificent wildlife.
WHAT IS A SAFARI ACCOMMODATION?
Safari accommodation refers to the places where travelers stay while on a safari trip in Africa. It could be anything from luxury lodges to simple tented camps or treehouses, located in or near wildlife reserves, parks or conservancies. The accommodations are designed to provide comfort and convenience to visitors while giving them an immersive experience of the natural environment. Safari accommodation varies in terms of luxury and price, making it accessible to a wide range of budgets. It’s a great way to explore the beauty of Africa’s wildlife and landscape in a unique and unforgettable way.
WHAT IS A SAFARI LODGE?
A safari lodge, also known as a game lodge, is a type of accommodation found in southern and eastern Africa that is mainly used by tourists on wildlife safaris. They are typically located in or near national parks or game reserves and offer a range of activities such as game drives and guided walks in addition to accommodation.
Safari lodges are usually situated in isolated rural areas, offering a sense of privacy and exclusivity. They vary in style and comfort, from rustic bush camps with tented accommodation to luxurious lodges that feel like upmarket hotels. Unlike hotels, lodges typically consist of separate buildings, such as bungalows or tents, with their own bedrooms, bathrooms, and sometimes small kitchens.
The exterior of many lodges reflects the traditional local architecture, blending in with the natural surroundings. This type of accommodation is perfect for travelers looking for an authentic experience of African wildlife and culture while still enjoying modern amenities and comfort.
WHAT TO PACK FOR SAFARI?
When it comes to packing for your safari adventure, it’s important to strike the right balance between practicality and comfort. We recommend bringing lightweight, comfortable clothing for the daytime and something a bit warmer for the chilly evenings, especially in the northern highlands. But don’t go overboard with your clothing choices – opt for casual, easy-to-wear outfits in muted, natural tones like khaki and earthy browns. Bright colors and white are best avoided as they can be disruptive to the animals and their habitats, and camouflage clothing is strictly prohibited.
Here’s a handy list of some essential items you’ll want to include in your safari packing checklist:
– Soft, lightweight holdall or duffel bag for easy transport
– Two pairs of comfortable shoes, including desert boots or trainers for walks and hikes
– A warm jacket and gloves for chilly winter months, or a lightweight waterproof jacket for rainy season
– A cozy sweater or fleece for cool evenings
– Two or three pairs of casual trousers or shorts/skirts, depending on the length of your safari
– A few T-shirts and a long-sleeved cotton shirt to protect against the sun’s rays
– A sweatshirt or hoodie for extra warmth on cold mornings or evenings
– A swimming costume for any water activities
– Photographic or video equipment, including extra batteries and a charger
– Binoculars for wildlife viewing
– A large, sturdy torch with extra batteries for nighttime game drives and walks
– Personal medications, antihistamines, and any necessary prescriptions
– All travel documentation and immunization certificates (if required)
– Malaria pills and high-factor sunscreen to protect against insect bites and the sun’s rays
– Insect repellent, eye drops, and baby wipes for added comfort
– An extra pair of prescription glasses or contact lenses (if applicable)
– A small daypack for carrying essentials on walks and game drives
– A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from the sun
By packing these essential items, you’ll be fully prepared to take on the adventure of a lifetime in the African wilderness. Don’t forget to leave some extra room in your luggage for souvenirs and memories to last a lifetime!
WHAT RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO VISITORS OF TANZANIA’S NATIONAL PARKS? FIND OUT BEFORE YOU GO!
If you’re planning a visit to Tanzania’s National Parks, there are some rules and guidelines you need to know to have a fantastic experience. These measures aim to protect the wildlife and the environment while ensuring visitors’ safety.
First and foremost, visitors should remember to keep a safe distance from the wildlife and avoid disturbing them. Feeding the animals is strictly prohibited, as is littering or leaving any garbage behind. Please ensure that you stay within designated areas to avoid any accidents or incidents.
Most activities in the parks require a considerable amount of time spent in a vehicle, such as game drives, which can last for hours. It’s an excellent opportunity to see the animals up close, but younger children may not find it comfortable or enjoyable. For this reason, we recommend taking breaks and using picnic spots to stretch and relax, and enjoy the tranquil African bush.
While there are no age restrictions for visitors, it’s essential to be mindful of the children’s comfort levels. Game drives can be tailored to suit your preferences, and if you’re traveling with young children, we suggest shortening the duration to ensure a comfortable experience. We do not recommend taking children under two years old on safari, as the long drives and bumpy terrain could be too taxing on them.
In summary, Tanzania’s National Parks offer an awe-inspiring experience that must be undertaken responsibly. Visitors should respect the environment and wildlife, keep a safe distance, and follow the rules and regulations. Make use of picnic spots, take breaks, and tailor your game drives to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all ages.
WHAT IS THE DURATION FOR A SAFARI?
Are you curious about the duration of a safari in Tanzania? The good news is that the length of your adventure is entirely up to you! You can opt for a quick day trip to one of the closer Parks, or embark on an extensive tour of several Parks, which could take two weeks or more.
A day’s game drive typically lasts between 4 and 8 hours, leaving ample time to relax at your lodge. Speaking of which, the accommodations in Tanzania’s National Parks are nothing short of exceptional, offering comfortable beds, Wi-Fi, delicious cuisine, and in most cases, a sparkling swimming pool to cool off after a day of adventure.
If you’re up for a more extended adventure, consider exploring multiple parks for a truly unforgettable experience. With so much to see and do, you’ll need at least two weeks to scratch the surface of all the wildlife, stunning landscapes, and cultural experiences Tanzania has to offer.
So, whether you’re a seasoned traveler or a first-timer, Tanzania’s National Parks offer an adventure of a lifetime, tailored to your preferences and timeframe.
AT WHAT TIME DO SAFARIS START?
Get ready for the ultimate adventure in the wilds of Africa! If you’re wondering at what time safaris start, we recommend heading out as early as possible to make the most of your safari experience. Rise and shine with the sun at 6:30-7AM for an unforgettable journey into the heart of Tanzania’s wilderness.
Why start so early, you may ask? For starters, mornings are typically cooler, making it a more comfortable and refreshing experience for you. Plus, it’s when the animals are most active, so you’ll have a higher chance of spotting them in their natural habitat. By getting to the park ahead of other tourists, you’ll have a better chance of having a more intimate and exclusive safari experience.
But wait, there’s more! All park fees in Tanzania are paid by the day, regardless of the time spent within the park. With closing time at 6PM, arriving early gives you more time to soak in the breathtaking scenery and wildlife before heading back to your cozy lodge.
However, at the end of the day, our top priority is your satisfaction. Our knowledgeable guides will happily adjust the schedule to fit your preferences and make sure you have the ultimate safari adventure of a lifetime. Don’t wait, book your safari today and get ready for an unforgettable journey into the heart of Africa’s wilds.

IS PHOTO AND VIDEO RECORDING ALLOWED ON SAFARI?
If you’re planning to go on a safari, you’re probably wondering if you’re allowed to take photos and videos while on your trip. The answer is yes! In fact, taking pictures and videos is one of the best ways to capture the breathtaking sights and sounds of Africa’s wildlife.
Our safari vehicles are equipped with customized 2014-2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 vehicles, which provide the perfect platform for taking photos and videos. The vehicles have ergonomic seats, fridges for cold drinks and snacks, electrical outlets for device charging, binoculars, and first-aid kits. The pop-up roofs allow you to stand up and observe and take photos in greater comfort. However, it is important to note that leaving the vehicle within the parks is strictly prohibited for the safety of the visitor and that of the fragile local ecosystem.
For photography of birds and animals, we recommend a 300mm telephoto lens. We also suggest bringing sufficient films and spare batteries for your camera, as these items are expensive and only available in larger cities. It is important to respect the cultures and beliefs of the locals, so we request that you ask permission before taking photos of them. In some cases, payment may be expected. Additionally, please do not take photographs of border posts or military/police posts, as this can lead to an unpleasant situation and even arrest.
For video cameras, the power supply in the countries we visit is mostly 220-240 volts. It may be possible to recharge your camera off the vehicle’s battery through a 12-volt cigarette lighter socket, but this will be at the discretion of your safari guide and not allowed if there is a risk of draining the batteries. We recommend taking enough batteries and recharging equipment with a cigarette lighter adapter.
According to the National Park regulations, all photo and video recording is allowed without the use of specialized equipment. This means that you may use any photo and video cameras. However, permits must be obtained for any recording that may later be used commercially. This does not apply to images and videos that may later be used in social media.
Finally, if you plan on using a drone for recording, please note that permits must be obtained in advance. The procedure for obtaining a permit is involved, and the permits are only issued for projects of high social value. Please inform your Tour Manager of the need for such a permit well in advance to give us sufficient time for formalities.

IS IT SAFE TO BRING CHILDREN ON A SAFARI?
Going on a safari with children can be an incredible and unforgettable experience for the whole family. It can be a unique opportunity for children to see animals they have only seen in books or on television, in their natural habitat. At Baest Royal Adventures, we welcome families with children of all ages on our safaris, and we take extra care to ensure their safety and comfort throughout the trip.
However, it is important to note that going on a safari with younger children can be challenging, especially for those under the age of two. The long hours in a safari vehicle may not be comfortable for them and may result in restlessness or tantrums. We recommend that parents of younger children consider shorter safari itineraries or select lodges that offer more child-friendly activities, such as swimming or nature walks.
For older children, a safari can be an incredible learning experience, and our experienced safari guides are always happy to share their knowledge of the African bush and its inhabitants. They can teach children about animal behavior, the environment, and conservation efforts. In addition, we offer family-friendly activities such as game drives, guided nature walks, and cultural visits, which are tailored to meet the needs of families with children.
At Baest Royal Adventures, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our guests, and we take all necessary precautions to ensure that your safari experience is both safe and enjoyable for your family, including children.
HOW CAN I DIVERSIFY MY SAFARI EXPERIENCE?
When it comes to diversifying your safari experience, there are plenty of exciting and unique activities to consider. One adventure that should not be missed is a breathtaking balloon flight over the vast plains of the Serengeti, providing you with an unforgettable birds-eye view of the stunning landscapes and wildlife below. For those interested in exploring the serene waters of the parks, many offer the chance to canoe through the picturesque lakes. And for those seeking even more panoramic views, chartering a single-engine plane for a flight over the parks is also an option.
To add any of these activities to your safari package, you can simply fill out our convenient tour planner available on our website and select the additional activities you’d like to include. Alternatively, you can email us directly with your desired activities and our expert Tour Managers will gladly assist you in crafting the perfect safari experience. Don’t hesitate to reach out for more information on these and other thrilling activities!
WHAT IS THE QUICKEST WAY TO TRAVEL BETWEEN TANZANIA’S NATIONAL PARKS?
If you want to travel quickly and efficiently between Tanzania’s National Parks, you can arrange a chartered flight. Airstrips are available at or near all of the parks, which makes it easy to fly between them. This is especially useful when traveling to one or more of the southern parks, as it can save you a lot of time compared to traveling by road. To learn more about chartered flights and how to arrange them, please contact our knowledgeable Tour Managers. They will be happy to provide you with all the details you need.
CAN I STAY CONNECTED TO THE WORLD DURING MY SAFARI?
Yes, Wi-Fi and Internet access are available at most hotels and lodges in popular safari destinations in Africa. However, it’s important to keep in mind that transfer speeds may be limited due to various factors such as the remote location of some lodges and the limited infrastructure in some areas.
Additionally, some lodges may have limited Wi-Fi access or may charge for its use. It’s always a good idea to check with your chosen accommodation beforehand to confirm their Wi-Fi availability and any associated costs or restrictions.
It’s also worth noting that while having internet access during your safari can be convenient, it’s often recommended to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in the natural surroundings and wildlife experience. Many lodges and camps offer opportunities for guided walks or drives, wildlife viewing, cultural interactions, and other activities that allow you to fully appreciate the beauty and adventure of a safari.
HOW IS THE PAYMENT SCHEDULE TO BE ABLE TO SECURE MY SAFARI PACKAGE?
We want to make sure that your safari experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, and that includes the payment process. In order to secure your hotel bookings and all the logistics needed for your expedition, we do require pre-payment.
For our Classic tours, we ask for a 30% advance payment, while our Luxury and Premium tours require 50%. Flights within Tanzania, as well as accommodations and excursions in Zanzibar, require full advance payments.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly, we typically ask that advance payments be made no later than 60 days before the start of your tour. However, if you’re planning to visit Tanzania during high season (around Christmas and from July through August), we highly recommend booking your accommodations well in advance. Quality tourist accommodations in Tanzania are in high demand during these periods, so your Tour Manager may request that payments for those tours be made 4-6 months in advance, especially if a photographic safari is part of your package.
If you’re traveling with a larger corporate group (20 people or more), we recommend making payments 6-8 months in advance. This will ensure that we can book your group into quality hotels with limited availability, especially as we approach the busy tourist season.
We hope that this information has been helpful to you, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any further questions or concerns about the payment process. Our goal is to make your safari experience as stress-free and enjoyable as possible!
CAN I MAKE FULL ADVANCE PAYMENTS FOR THE TOUR, AND IF SO, THEN HOW?
Yes, full advance payments can be made to our Tanzanian bank accounts or through credit card payments. Bank transfers generally take 3-5 days to process, and all transfer commissions and charges are payable by the client. We also offer the option of instant money transfers using credit card links, which will be shared with the client to complete the payment. However, please note that credit card payments may incur additional transaction fees.
Once the full payment has been received, your designated Tour Manager will share all necessary documents, including the confirmed safari itinerary, vouchers, tickets, and all other documents that were paid for. Our team will ensure that you have all the necessary information and documentation to have a seamless and stress-free experience on your safari adventure.
We understand that making payments can be a daunting task, but our team is always available to guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have. Whether you choose to make a bank transfer or use our credit card payment option, we will work with you to make the process as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
If you have any further queries about the payment process or anything else related to your safari adventure, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Tour Managers for assistance. We look forward to helping you plan the trip of a lifetime!
WHAT ARE THE OTHER COSTS, APART FROM THE ACTUAL PRICE OF THE TOUR, SHOULD I EXPECT TO INCUR?
In addition to the actual price of your tour, there are a few extra costs to keep in mind. Firstly, visa fees are not included in the tour price, so you will need to pay for these separately. Additionally, if you plan to enjoy alcoholic beverages at hotels, please note that this is not typically included in the all-inclusive rates and will need to be paid for separately.
Another cost to consider is tipping for your climb crews and safari driver/guides. It is customary to tip Kilimanjaro climb crews and for safari driver/guides, USD 20-50 per vehicle per day is the accepted norm.
While these costs are not included in your tour price, your Tour Manager will be happy to provide guidance and recommendations on how to manage them effectively. By keeping these additional costs in mind, you can ensure that you have a clear and accurate understanding of your overall tour expenses.
WHAT IS TIPPING?
Tipping is the practice of giving a small amount of money as a gratuity to service providers in return for their services. In Tanzania, tipping is expected in most places, especially in places frequented by tourists. It is a way of showing appreciation for good service and is an important part of the safari experience.
When it comes to tipping in restaurants, cafes, and other establishments, it is not expected in small, local places, especially in rural areas. However, in major towns and tourist hotspots, it is customary to either round out the bill or add about 10% of the total as a tip, assuming the service has been satisfactory. Some high-end establishments may already include a service charge in the bill, so be sure to check before adding an additional tip.
In the safari industry, tipping is particularly important, as it can make a big difference in the lives of those who work in the tourism sector. Tipping is not included in the price of the tour and is given directly to the service providers. Many safari operators have tipping guidelines, but as a general rule, it is recommended to tip a minimum of $30 to $50 per car per day, depending on the level of service and satisfaction. You can also choose to tip more if you feel that the service has been exceptional.
When giving tips, it is best to give them directly to the staff you want to thank. This way, they can show their appreciation and thank you for your generosity. Remember that tipping is voluntary, and the amount you give should depend on your satisfaction with the service provided. By tipping, you can help to make the experience of those who work in the tourism industry more rewarding and help support the local economy.
IS TIPPING EXPECTED?
In Tanzania, tipping is customary and expected. While it is ultimately up to your discretion, we recommend tipping your safari driver/guide and crew between $20-50 per vehicle per day, depending on the level of service you receive. For Kilimanjaro climbs, crew tips average around $250 per client. Please note that your tour price does not include these tips, and they should be paid in cash directly to the individuals who provided the service.
IF I WOULD LIKE TO CANCEL THE SAFARI PACKAGE, WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY AND DO I GET REFUNDED?

If you need to cancel your safari, we offer the following refunds:

For cancellations made between 90 and 60 days before the safari starting date, we will refund 75% of your payment, minus the cost of hotel booking cancellation and bank charges.
For cancellations made between 60 and 45 days before the safari starting date, we will refund 50% of your payment, minus the cost of hotel booking cancellation and bank charges.
For cancellations made within 45 days of the safari starting date, a full cancellation will apply, and no refunds will be issued.
We understand that timely processing of refunds is crucial for our clients, and we always strive to make it as seamless as possible. The refund will be processed within 14 working days from the day of receipt of the written cancellation notice.
Please keep in mind that we have a strict refund policy due to the commitments we make to our suppliers, including the lodges and camps companies. We will do our best to resell your safari to another client, but if we are unable to do so, we cannot offer a full refund.
We want to make sure that you are aware of our cancellation policy before you make your payment, and we encourage you to take out travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.
At Baest Royal Adventures, we believe in transparency and clarity, and we want our clients to have a stress-free experience. If you have any questions or concerns about our cancellation policy, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
