Tour Plan:

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve

Baest Royal Adventures welcomes you to Tanzania! Today, our friendly driver will pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive you to Selous Game Reserve, which is about 5-6 hours’ drive away. Along the way, you’ll see local villages, plantations, and beautiful landscapes. Our experienced guide will share with you interesting information about the region, the culture, and the wildlife that you might encounter during your trip.

As we arrive at the park, we’ll stop for a picnic lunch while enjoying the beautiful views around us. After lunch, we’ll continue to Rufiji River Camp/ Zarafa Tented Camp, where you’ll check-in to your accommodation and take a short rest before your afternoon boat safari along the Rufiji River.

This is a unique opportunity to discover the Rufiji River, the largest river in Tanzania and the lifeblood of the Selous Game Reserve. You’ll encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers, and if you’re lucky, you might see elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife coming to the river to drink. The Selous Game Reserve is home to some 350 bird species, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest.

As the sun sets, we’ll head back to the camp for a delicious dinner prepared by our skilled chefs. You’ll have some time to relax, share your experiences with other travelers, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the African wilderness. Overnight stay will be at Rufiji River Camp/ Zarafa Tented Camp, where you’ll fall asleep to the sounds of nature.

Day 2: Game Drive in Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast, you will embark on a full day game drive in the Selous Game Reserve. With over 54,600 square kilometers, Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa and is renowned for its diverse wildlife and unique landscapes. The reserve is named after the famous hunter and explorer, Frederick Courtney Selous, who was killed here during World War I.

Your expert guide will take you through different sections of the reserve, each offering a unique experience. You will have the opportunity to spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) as well as other wildlife such as hyenas, zebras, giraffes, impalas, and more. Keep your camera ready to capture these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

During the game drive, you will stop for a picnic lunch in the wilderness, surrounded by stunning landscapes and wildlife. After lunch, you will continue your exploration of the park, soaking in the beauty of the reserve.

In the evening, you will return to your lodge, Rufiji River Camp or Zarafa Tented Camp, for a delicious dinner and a peaceful overnight stay.

Day 3: Boat Safari and Walking Safari in Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast, you will enjoy a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River, which is home to some of Africa’s largest populations of hippos and crocodiles. The river is also a habitat for a variety of bird species such as kingfishers, African fish eagles, and storks. During the boat safari, you will get a unique perspective of the wildlife and landscapes along the riverbank.

After the boat safari, you will embark on a walking safari with an armed ranger, providing you with a more intimate experience of the Selous Game Reserve. This is an opportunity to get up close to the flora and fauna and learn about the smaller wildlife that may be overlooked on a traditional game drive. You may spot bushbucks, reedbucks, and other antelopes, as well as primates like baboons and monkeys.

As you walk, your guide will provide fascinating insights into the ecology and behavior of the animals and plants you encounter. You may also learn about the local communities and their relationship with the reserve.

After the walking safari, you will return to the lodge for a tasty lunch. In the afternoon, you can relax at the lodge, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy a nature walk around the camp. In the evening, you will savor a sumptuous dinner before retiring to your comfortable accommodations at Rufiji River Camp or Zarafa Tented Camp.

Day 4: Selous Game Reserve – Mikumi National Park

After an early breakfast, you will embark on a morning walking safari that will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. Later on, you will proceed to Mikumi National Park with a picnic lunch. The drive will take you through the most amazing and truly wild and untouched areas of Tanzania. As you cross rivers and pass small local villages and farms, you will be able to witness the daily lives of the local people.
