Join us on a guided tour of Zanzibar’s spice plantations, also known as the “Spice Island,” where you’ll learn about the island’s history as a hub of the spice trade and discover the fragrant and flavorful spices that grow in the lush countryside. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll visit working farms and orchards, taste exotic fruits and spices, and learn how they’re harvested and processed. Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the natural bounty of Zanzibar and the people who cultivate it.

Reason: This allows you to make the most of your full day of activities, including snorkeling, swimming, and enjoying a delicious seafood lunch on a remote island. Starting early also means you’ll have a better chance of spotting dolphins and other wildlife during your boat trip.

Meet your guide at the designated pier in Stone Town.

09:15am – 10:15am

Drive to the spice plantations, located in the countryside around Stone Town. Enjoy views of the rural landscape and learn about the history of the spice trade in Zanzibar.

10:15am – 11:15am

Take a guided tour of a working spice farm, where you’ll see firsthand how spices like cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg are grown, harvested, and processed. Learn about the traditional methods used by local farmers and the modern techniques that are helping to sustain the industry.

11:15am – 12:15pm

Taste a variety of exotic fruits and spices, such as jackfruit, star fruit, lemongrass, and vanilla. Your guide will teach you how to identify each spice by smell and taste, and share tips on how to use them in your cooking.

12:15pm – 01:00pm

Enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch at the farm, featuring dishes made with fresh spices and ingredients. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are available.

Return to your hotel or continue exploring Stone Town at your leisure.
