Arrival and Preparation Day:

Our driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transport you to your hotel in Moshi. Our driver will wait for you, no matter how long it takes for you to clear customs. Once you have checked in to your hotel, we will conduct an equipment check to ensure you have all the necessary gear. If anything is missing, rentals can be arranged.

Your guide from Baest Royal Adventures will then meet with you to conduct a thorough pre-climb briefing, addressing any questions or concerns you may have. For those arriving at night, these activities can be scheduled for the following morning.

Day 1: Drive to Londorossi Gate

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, our experienced driver will pick you up and we will travel together to the Londorossi Gate. This small village is the starting point for your unforgettable adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Before embarking on your trek, you will complete registration formalities and receive a briefing on the trekking route and safety precautions.

Your hike begins in the picturesque Lemosho Glade, an area that is home to various wildlife species such as buffalo and elephants. For your safety, there is a possibility that an armed ranger will accompany you on the first part of your hike in case any of the larger wildlife has been spotted in the area.

You will follow a forested track up to the Mti Mkubwa Campsite, where you will set up your tent and spend your first night camping on Mount Kilimanjaro. This campsite offers stunning views of the surrounding natural beauty and is an excellent place to acclimatize to the high altitude.

Trekking Duration and Distance: 2 to 3 hours, 6 km, 820m of elevation gain

Overnight Location: Camping on Mount Kilimanjaro (2,650m / 8,694’)

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 2: Trek out of the forest and up Shira Ridge to Shira 2 Camp

Start your day with a nutritious breakfast and prepare for a breathtaking trek out of the forest and up to the dramatic Shira Ridge. Enjoy the expansive scenery as you walk through the moorland heather, crossing several streams along the way.

The journey to Shira 2 Camp is a challenging one, covering a distance of 16 km and a 1200m elevation gain. You’ll need to be prepared for a long day of trekking, which can take approximately 7 to 8 hours. However, the stunning scenery that surrounds you makes every step worth it.

As you reach an elevation of 3,810m (12,500′), you’ll arrive at Shira 2 Camp. This campsite offers a stunning panoramic view of the mountain, providing a serene environment for you to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty.

Our team will provide you with delicious and nutritious meals throughout the day, including lunch and dinner. The camping arrangements are comfortable, ensuring you get a good night’s rest before continuing your journey the next day.

Day 3: Adjust to the altitude, hike to the Lava Tower and Barranco Camp

After a good night’s rest at Shira 2 Camp, it’s time to prepare for another exciting day of trekking on Mount Kilimanjaro. As you trek out of the Shira Plateau, you’ll begin experiencing even higher altitudes.
Tonight, you’ll be using the hike high and sleep low strategy to get acclimatized to the elevation. This strategy involves hiking to a higher elevation during the day and then descending to a lower elevation to sleep at night.

Along the way, you’ll have a chance to see the Lava Tower, a “shark tooth” shaped rock outcropping on your route. This landmark provides a stunning backdrop for photos and is a highlight of the trek.
As you continue your trek, you’ll arrive at the Barranco Camp, where you’ll spend the night. At an elevation of 3,900m (12,795′), this campsite offers an excellent opportunity for you to acclimatize to the altitude before continuing your journey.

The trekking duration on Day 3 is approximately 5 to 6 hours, covering a distance of 8 km, and a gentle 90m elevation gain. You’ll be provided with delicious and nutritious meals throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 4: Climb the Barranco Wall and trek through Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp

Get ready for a challenging day of trekking on Day 4 as you take on the infamous Barranco Wall. The climb to the top is very steep, but the stunning views from the top make it all worthwhile.

As you descend into the Karanga Valley, you’ll prepare for one more steep hike up to Karanga Camp before you can rest for the night. This campsite is located at an elevation of 3,995m (13,160′), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The trekking duration on Day 4 is approximately 3 to 4 hours, covering a distance of 5 km, and a gentle 95m elevation gain. You’ll be provided with nutritious meals throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 5: Hike to Barafu Camp

On Day 5, you’ll have the opportunity to complete the South Circuit route, offering you panoramic views of the summit from almost every angle. As you hike to Barafu Camp, situated at an elevation of 4,673m (15,331′), the landscape will become increasingly sparse and rocky.

The trekking duration on Day 5 is approximately 3 to 4 hours, covering a distance of 4 km, with a challenging 650m elevation gain. You’ll enjoy nutritious meals throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, and an early dinner, allowing you to rest and prepare for your midnight wake-up call.

Day 6: Final Climb to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak – Descend to Mweka Camp

On Day 6, you’ll begin the final climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek begins sometime after midnight, and you’ll navigate the trail past Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers and up to Stella Point. The path is steep and challenging, with heavy screen making footing difficult. However, with the help of our expert guides, you’ll make it to the summit successfully.

As you rest at Stella Point, the spectacular sunrise will reward your strenuous morning climb. From there, it’s only an hour up the snowy track to the top of Uhuru Peak. Celebrate at the summit for a few moments, taking in the incredible views from Africa’s highest point.

After summiting Uhuru Peak, it’s time to begin the descent down to Mweka Camp, located at a much more comfortable elevation of 3100m (10,170′). The trekking duration on Day 6 is approximately 10 to 13 hours, covering a distance of 16 km, with a challenging 1195m ascent and 2795m descent.

Throughout the day, you’ll be provided with nutritious meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, to ensure that you remain energized throughout the trek. Our experienced guides will be there to offer you support and ensure that you have a safe and memorable trekking experience.

The Trekking Price Includes:

  • Accommodation in Moshi one night before and one night after the trek (B&B plan) check out time is 10:00 hrs (late check out charge is $65).
  • Return Airport Transfers -To and from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
  • Private toilet tent(s) — 1 tent for every 7 climbers (not used on Marangu Route).
  • All government fees and Taxes for the National park.
  • All meals and water while on the mountain.
  • All salaries for guides, assistant guides, chef, porters.
  • Return Transport to and from the park gate.
  • Oxygen for altitude sickness emergencies.
  • All camping equipment (tents, tables, chairs, cooking equipment, dining tent, mattress… everything but your sleeping bag.)

The Trekking Price does not Include:

  • Sleeping bag – please bring your own or rent one from our equipment rental shop.
